Discover the magic of Mijas Pueblo
Mijas Pueblo... The first time we visited here when we stayed at Casa Mijas, we fell in love with this beautiful village with its white houses and with stunning views of the Costa del Sol.
Mijas is a white town with Arabic structure, located just 18 kilometres from Casa Mijas. You can rightly call this town a white pearl in the mountains. Following the steep path to this village, you are greeted with red flowers in blue pots hanging everywhere on the outside walls.
What is there to do in Mijas Pueblo, this unique white town?
Of course you will find the unique 'donkey taxis', popular among tourists from all over the world and for which the village is also famous.
Plaza de Toros Mijas is a small bull arena and a historical monument. Built in 1900, this bull arena is oval and not round like most bullrings. You will find the Plaza de Toros in the centre of Mijas Pueblo.
Also special is the old Arabic wall with several beautiful vantage points such as Mirador de la Sierre and Santuario de la Virgen de la Pena. There is a nice story to tell about this chapel, called the Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Rock. In the 16th century, children saw a dove sitting high on a rock every day. They told their father, who was a bricklayer, about the dove. The father decided to investigate and what turned out to be, the rock was hollow. The mason started digging and in the rock he found some religious objects as well as the statue of the Virgin. The Virgin told him to build a chapel on this spot.
You can also visit the world's smallest chocolate factory. Only local natural ingredients of the best quality are used here. You can also take part in fun activities.
Walkers are also in for a treat. Discover the beautiful hiking trails of the beautifully marked Red de Senderos de Mijas. This is a great way to discover and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of Mijas. Starting point is the village viewpoint or the Mirador de Mijas Pueblo.
