Engelandvaarders Museum

What do you know about the Engelandvaarders? For those for whom the word "Engelandvaarders" means nothing, here is a brief explanation. An Engelandvaarder escaped from occupied Holland in World War II to join the Allied forces in England to fight Nazi Germany and Japan.

What a harsh and dangerous journey that must have been in barely seaworthy boats or by land via Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal and even Russia. Yet 2,000 Dutch managed to reach England. Unfortunately, many also drowned at sea, were arrested, imprisoned or shot.

New at this museum is an Escape game. Young or old ... crawl into the house of the Englanders and play your game on a tablet. You become a member of a resistance group helping an Englander to achieve his goal. You will learn how people communicated with each other in those days .... There were no mobiles back then : )

Freedom is not something to be taken for granted. This museum wants to inspire everyone to make a choice that is topical in any time of threat and tension: against indifference and in favour of resisting what really cannot be done, because freedom cannot be taken for granted. That is what the Engelandvaarders also stood for.

The best-known "Soldier of Orange", Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema, put it beautifully: "There are moments in every man's life when he or she says to himself or herself: Well, this really isn't possible and then you do something".

The Engelandvaarders Museum can be found in Noordwijk at Bosweg 15. The museum is housed in an ammunition bunker from World War II. Through personal stories, you can travel back in this dangerous time.
